Niels Peek studied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Utrecht University, and holds a PhD in Computer Science from Utrecht University. His scientific work focuses on the application of advanced tools and techniques from Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Statistics in clinical medicine. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam where he lectures on Artificial Intelligence and medical decision support systems, and is involved in various scientific research projects on these topics.

Mariëtte van Engen holds a MSc in ‘Policy and organisation of health care’ from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. During her bachelor ‘Health sciences’ she completed her internship in the CARDSS team and took interviews for the CARDSS-I study. Currently, she is employed as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center, since september 2008 she works on the CARDSS-II study. In this study the implementation of the clinical algorithm for cardiac rehabilitation with computerized decision support and regular feedback (benchmark information) is investigated. She coordinated and co-authored both the 'Beslisboom Hartrevalidatie 2010 and 2012', performed a usability research towards the Mediscore CARDSS software and a study towards Cardiac Rehabilitation uptake in the Netherlands.

Sandra Vosbergen holds a MSc in 'Design for Interaction' and a BSc in 'Industrial Design' from the Delft University of Technology. After her studies she decided she wanted to do something new with her knowledge, preferably in the healthcare sector. Currently, she is therefore employed as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center. She works on the MyCARDSS-I study since september 2009. In this study patient-centered services for self-management of cardiovascular risk are studied and developed.
 
 
Anne-Marieke Wiggers, MSc.

Anne-Marieke Wiggers holds a MSc in Health Sciences (cum laude) from the University of Twente, after she studied nursing at Saxion Hogeschool. Currently she is employed as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center. Since April 2012 she works on the MyCardss-II study. In this study the central point will be the development and evaluation of an online web-based, personal health record and information system for cardiac rehabilitation patients.

Jos Kraal obtained a MSc. degree in Human Movement Science at the Free University of Amsterdam and a MSc. degree in Public Health, Healthcare Policy, Innovation and Management at Maastricht University. In April 2012 he started working as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics, on a project related to the CARDSS projects. The aim of this FIT@Home project is to compare home-based exercise training with telemonitoring guidance, with regular centre-based exercise training in cardiac rehabilitation. Main endpoints are physical fitness, training adherence, health-related quality of life and cost-effectiveness.
 
  
Drs. Tom Vromen

Tom Vromen obtained his medical degree at Maastricht University in 2011. He currently works part-time as a PhD student at the Medical Informatics Department at the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam and part-time as ANIOS/resident Cardiology at the Maxima Medical Centre, Veldhoven.
His work as PhD student he spends on the project named FysioCARDSS. The aim of FysioCARDSS is quality improvement of exercise training programs in Dutch cardiac rehabilitation centers.
 
 
Dr. Nicolette de Keizer

Nicolette de Keizer holds a PhD in Medical Informatics from the University of Amsterdam. She is the head of the research group “Evaluation of Care and Information Systems” at the department of Medical Informatics at the University of Amsterdam, and a member of the board of the Dutch National Intensive Care Evaluation. She is involved in writing the scientific output of the CARDSS project.

Hareld Kemps obtained his medical degree at Utrecht University and is now a registered Sports Physician and Cardiologist. He holds a PhD thesis from Eindhoven University of Technology (Oxygen uptake kinetics in chronic heart failure). He is currently working as a cardiologist at Maxima Medical Centre Veldhoven and also active as a member in Commission on Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology. During two days a month he works as a postdoc researcher in the CARDSS team.

Monique Jaspers is professor of Medical Informatics, director of the Educational Institute Medical Informatics and adjunct head of the department of Medical Informatics at the Academic Medical Center - University of Amsterdam. She heads the Centre of Human Factors Engineering of interactive Healthcare Technology- HITlab. The aim of the HIT lab is to contribute to the design of highly usable interactive healthcare technology that optimally supports health care providers, patients and other types of system users in their daily information processing, decision making and (self) care activities. In her research, characterization of healthcare technology users’ cognitive processes and work practices is a key issue in the development and optimization of these healthcare technologies
She has served for six years as vice-chair of the educational board of the undergraduate and Masters programs of Medical Informatics. She initiated the International Partnership of Health Informatics Education, a collaboration of 6 universities in Europe and the US
She took responsibility for curriculum revisions, (inter)national educational collaborations, (national) educational quality assurance programs and alumni programs. She chairs the Honors traineeships program in medical informatics and the scientific program committee of the international Amsterdam- Maastricht Summer School on Health Informatics She is editorial board member of the international journal Methods of Information in Medicine. Monique Jaspers earns a BSc and MSC in experimental and cognitive psychology and a PhD in cognitive psychology.

Ameen Abu-Hanna is professor of Medical Informatics and head of the department of Medical Informatics at the Academic Medical Center at the University of Amsterdam. He is Principal Investigator in the research area Methodology in Medical Informatics with interest in: artificial intelligence; machine learning, datamining and statistics; prognostic modeling and evaluation; temporal patterns; subgroup discovery; decision support systems; and terminology systems, and their application in medicine and health care. He is associate editor of Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI) and a former president of the European Society of AI in Medicine. He has served for four years as the vice-chair on the educational board of the undergraduate and Masters programs of Medical Informatics where he was responsible for revising the informatics part of the curriculum. Ameen Abu-Hanna earned a BSc (Cum Laude) in computer engineering, an MSc in computer science (both from the Technion in Haifa) and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam.
