Niels Peek studied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Utrecht University, and holds a PhD in Computer Science from Utrecht University. His scientific work focuses on the application of advanced tools and techniques from Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Statistics in clinical medicine. He is currently an assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam where he lectures on Artificial Intelligence and medical decision support systems, and is involved in various scientific research projects on these topics.
Drs. Mariette van Engen

Mariëtte van Engen holds a MSc in ‘Policy and organisation of health care’ from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. During her bachelor ‘Health sciences’ she completed her internship in the CARDSS team and took interviews for the CARDSS-I study. Currently, she is employed as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center, since september 2008 she works on the CARDSS-II study. In this study the implementation of the clinical algorithm for cardiac rehabilitation with computerized decision support and regular feedback (benchmark information) is investigated.

Sandra Vosbergen holds a MSc in 'Design for Interaction' and a BSc in 'Industrial Design' from the Delft University of Technology. After her studies she decided she wanted to do something new with her knowledge, preferably in the healthcare sector. Currently, she is therefore employed as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center. She works on the MyCARDSS study since september 2009. In this study patient-centered services for self-management of cardiovascular risk are studied and developed.
 
Dr. Nicolette de Keizer

Nicolette de Keizer holds a PhD in Medical Informatics from the University of Amsterdam. She is the head of the research group “Evaluation of Care and Information Systems” at the department of Medical Informatics at the University of Amsterdam, and a member of the board of the Dutch National Intensive Care Evaluation. She is involved in writing the scientific output of the CARDSS project.
 
Dr. Hareld Kemps

Hareld Kemps obtained his medical degree at Utrecht University and is now a registered Sports Physician and Cardiologist. He holds a PhD thesis from Eindhoven University of Technology (Oxygen uptake kinetics in chronic heart failure). He is currently working as a cardiologist at Maxima Medical Centre Veldhoven and also active as a member in Commission on Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology. During two days a month he works as a postdoc researcher in the CARDSS team
 
Tsui-ling Man, BSc

Tsui-ling Man worked  for the CARDSS-II project from February till July 2010 as student MSc Health Sciences specialised in Policy and Organisation of Health Care from the Free University of Amsterdam. During her internship she investigated the current financing of cardiac rehabilitation. The results of the internship can be found in the section for professionals under the heading 'Cardiac Rehabilitation'.
 

Dr. Irene Hellemans

Irene Hellemans became a medical doctor at the University of Utrecht, and a cardiologist at the St Antonius Hospital in Nieuwegein She has been active in the field of cardiac rehabilitation since 1990. She participated in the guideline committees on cardiac rehabilitation in the Netherlands and the nucleus of the Working Group on Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Physiology of the European Society of Cardiology. She is chairperson of the Commission on Prevention and Rehabilitation of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology and chairperson of the national multidisciplinary council on cardiac rehabilitation.

Rick Goud holds both a MSc in Medical Informatics from the University of Amsterdam and a MSc in Healthcare Management from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He designed and developed the patient information management system CARDSS. For five years he was employed as a junior researcher at the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center, where he has conducted the CARDSS-I trial. On 8 May 2008 he succesfully defended his thesis titled 'Computerized Decision Support to improve Guideline Implementation in Cardiac Rehabilitation'. Currently he is employed as a consultant at Gupta Strategists.
 
Prof. dr. Ameen Abu-Hanna

Ameen Abu-Hanna is professor of Medical Informatics and head of the department of Medical Informatics at the Academic Medical Center at the University of Amsterdam. He is Principal Investigator in the research area Methodology in Medical Informatics with interest in: artificial intelligence; machine learning, datamining and statistics; prognostic modeling and evaluation; temporal patterns; subgroup discovery; decision support systems; and terminology systems, and their application in medicine and health care. He is associate editor of Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI) and a former president of the European Society of AI in Medicine. He has served for four years as the vice-chair on the educational board of the undergraduate and Masters programs of Medical Informatics where he was responsible for revising the informatics part of the curriculum. Ameen Abu-Hanna earned a BSc (Cum Laude) in computer engineering, an MSc in computer science (both from the Technion in Haifa) and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam.
      
Prof. dr. Arie Hasman

Arie Hasman was the chair of the Department of Medical Informatics of the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam until 31 january 2010. He (co-)authored more than 400 publications in the field of medical informatics. He has conducted research in the areas of databases, signal processing, image processing, decision support systems and education, and was supervisor of 35 PhD candidates.
